My Origin Story

Carlisle Skate Sharpening was started five years ago in 2014. At that time the only sports store in Waterdown closed it’s doors, there was no sharpening at Harry Howell Arena, and trying to find the arena attendant in Carlisle on a weekend was not an easy task. The only option was to drive down to Burlington.

At the same time I built a backyard rink for my family to use and the rink was heavily used on the weekends. Skating on a backyard rink is the best way to dull your skates, and since my sons would play games on the weekends as well it was always a hassle trying to get the skates sharpened before their games.

I found a used unit on Kijiji, and began honing my skills on sharpening skates.

To keep up with customer demand, I have since upgraded from the original sharpener so that I can sharpen a variety of radii, including Flat Bottom V and goalie skates.

I’ve also added a tool to replace rivets and eyelets as I get closer to a full service skate and equipment repair shop.

In 2018, I purchased a SaniSport equipment sanitizer, and now offer the only equipment sanitization services in the area. You can read more about the benefits of equipment sanitization in this post.

What are the future plans for Carlisle Skate Sharpening?
